Digital Court Reporters

Digital reporters use digital audio equipment that allows for playback of the testimony. Whereas a stenographer can instantly read back testimony from her stenographic notes, a digital reporter actually plays back the deponent’s recorded testimony. This allows the participants to hear both the substance of what was said as well as the tone of the speaker. We’ve all heard the saying: It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. Perception is key here. The digital reporter also types standard shorthand annotated notes throughout the deposition. The multi-channel recording equipment allows a digital reporter to take the testimony of multiple speakers at the same time. Digital reporters are proficient in producing transcripts within 24 hours or less.
Every digital reporter must have excellent usage of the English language, a keen attention to detail, and the ability to stay focused for long periods of time. At Brickell Key, these skills are minimum requirements for our digital reporters.

Court Reporting Methods

Court reporting has evolved from a 6 x 9 spiral Steno notepad to literally streaming testimony over the internet with software such as Stenograph’s CaseViewNet. This allows participants attending remotely to view the testimony as it’s being spoken in realtime. This remote transmission works when the attorney signs in to the software program and connects to the reporter’s output of translated testimony.
